Author: Trond Mannseth Affiliation: RF-Rogaland Research Title: NONLINEARITY, SCALE, AND SENSITIVITY FOR PARAMETER ESTIMATION PROBLEMS; SOME IMPLICATIONS FOR ESTIMATION ALGORITHMS Text: Parameter estimation algorithms that rely on sensitivity information to calculate new parameter updates, are usually based on a linearization of the model function at the current parameter estimate. Hence, both sensitivity and nonlinearity are of importance for the efficiency of the estimation algorithm. Therefore, knowledge of a general nature on sensitivity and/or nonlinearity for some class of models can perhaps be utilized to improve the estimation efficiency for this class.

Nonlinearity, Scale, and Sensitivity for Parameter Estimation Problems
Uncertainty assessment for parameter estimation problems is considered. It is customary to use confidence regions or intervals to give the precision of the parameter estimates. The method most used, because of modest computational requirements, is linearized covariance analysis. Monte Carlo analysis can be used to check the validity of the linearization for a particular model, but is clearly no...
متن کاملEstimation of LOS Rates for Target Tracking Problems using EKF and UKF Algorithms- a Comparative Study
One of the most important problem in target tracking is Line Of Sight (LOS) rate estimation for using from PN (proportional navigation) guidance law. This paper deals on estimation of position and LOS rates of target with respect to the pursuer from available noisy RF seeker and tracker measurements. Due to many important for exact estimation on tracking problems must target position and Line O...
متن کاملA multi-level strategy for regularized parameter identification using nonlinear reparameterization with sample application for reservoir characterization
Level-set methods are popular for identifying piecewise constant structures. We propose an approach inspired by the level-set idea to identify coarse scale features of a scalar field, where the transitions between different regions can be both sharp and smooth. The nonlinear and coarse reparameterization structure provides regularization on the inverse problem, which is important if the quality...
متن کاملTruncated Linear Minimax Estimator of a Power of the Scale Parameter in a Lower- Bounded Parameter Space
Minimax estimation problems with restricted parameter space reached increasing interest within the last two decades Some authors derived minimax and admissible estimators of bounded parameters under squared error loss and scale invariant squared error loss In some truncated estimation problems the most natural estimator to be considered is the truncated version of a classic...
متن کاملBayesian Estimation of Shift Point in Shape Parameter of Inverse Gaussian Distribution Under Different Loss Functions
In this paper, a Bayesian approach is proposed for shift point detection in an inverse Gaussian distribution. In this study, the mean parameter of inverse Gaussian distribution is assumed to be constant and shift points in shape parameter is considered. First the posterior distribution of shape parameter is obtained. Then the Bayes estimators are derived under a class of priors and using variou...
